The Holiday Season
Here is another post brought to you by Mudgie being sick. This poor boy has had a rough ride lately. First, he got that nasty chest cold that kept him home the whole week before Thanksgiving. Then, the following Friday, I got a call to come pick him up from school, as he had a fever and was complaining about his ear and throat. Luckily, we were on our way to the doctor anyway for Tommy's 4 month check-up, so we just got a 2-for-1 special. Mudgie had strep, and then, on his last day of the 10 days of antibiotics, he gets a nasty cough and a really wheezy chest. We did quite a few breathing treatments last night (he even woke us up in the middle of the night to ask for them, something that never happens), so I brought him in to the doctor today to make sure there was nothing else going on. 1 chest x-ray and a prescription for oral steroids later, and he seems to be doing better. There are a lot of things I'm glad Mudgie got from me, but I wish asthma was not one of them.
As for Tommy, he weighed in at 15 lbs. 13 oz. and 26" long at his 4-month check-up. That boy is growing like a weed! He's also getting really good at tummy time, and has started rolling from belly to back. He laughs and does "the airplane" during tummy time (think balancing on his tummy with his arms and legs in the air). He really is getting to be such a big boy.
As we shift gears from Thanksgiving to Christmas, the big boys are fully immersed in the holiday season. They got an adorable advent calendar from my grandparents, so every day they take turns opening a little door on the cabin to reveal a woodland creature inside. The tree decorating was a huge hit (at least with Mudgie...Aaron put on 3 ornaments and was done), and it looks so pretty. Mudgie has a Christmas wish list about a mile long, and this year, he wrote it all out himself! Aaron's wants pale in comparision to Mudgie's. We were driving home one day when I asked him what he wanted for Christmas, and he told me, "Whatever you want me to have, Mommy." Seriously! Could you get any sweeter? When I pushed him a little more, he managed to come up with a "pink truck" for his list, because as he says, "pink is my best color."
We saw Santa this past weekend at the Concord Museum. It was such a great way to enjoy the season. We waited about 10 minutes in line to see a fabulous Santa. All the boys got a chance to tell him what they wanted. Mudgie took a little while to warm up to him, but did eventually tell him all about the Lego train he wants. Aaron was shy and reserved the whole time, but couldn't stop talking about him after the fact. Tommy was the only one who wasn't scared of the jolly old fellow at first! After seeing Santa, we toured the museum, which was filled with the cutest Christmas trees, all decorated in themes of children's books, and then went over to the activity room, where they had tables of crafts and face painting that the kids just loved! We will definitely go back there next year.
And to leave you with a laugh, an Aaron funny:
We were playing with some of the baby toys that had been put away since we moved, and were only brought back out recently for Tommy. Aaron picked up an electronic drum and bangs on it.
Drum: "Toca la musica!"
Aaron: "Mommy, why is the drum talking Spinach?"
