6 Months Old and Rolling Over!

Mudgie has had an exciting few weeks! The week before his 6-month birthday he finally started rolling over. We thought it might never happen, but he proved us wrong. The first few times he did it, nobody was there to witness it. Someone would put him down on his back, and when we went back to get him, he was on his belly. We started calling it the phantom roll, because we knew he was doing it, but we never saw it happen. Then, a few days later, we were playing with Eli on the floor, and he finally decided to show us his newest trick first hand! We were such proud parents...I'm sure Eli was wondering why we making such a fuss.

This week Eli had his 6-month check-up. He is now 26.75" long, and weighs in at 16.1 lbs. He must be becoming much more active, because he managed to grow more than an inch and hardly gain any weight! He got full exam, and the doctor doesn't seem concerned about the weight, and we know he's getting plenty of food, as he's still pounding down 20-22 oz. of milk at daycare alone! He took his 3 shots like a champ, and aside from being extra sleepy that evening, he had no adverse reactions.

The biggest news, however, is that Eli started solid food this weekend. He had baby oatmeal mixed with mommy milk and LOVED it! Yes, he did end up wearing a lot of it on his face, but a surprising amount also went in his mouth and into his belly. He knew just what to do when the spoon came up to his mouth. Not that we were surprised, but it is amazing how babies just know instinctively how to do things they've never done before. We will stick with the oatmeal for a few days, and then start to add in some more variety. Next up is pureed sweet potatoes...yum!
