Mudgie has not been himself since we got back from North Carolina. He's even more of a "Mama's boy" than usual, and throwing fits and melting down at the drop of a hat. Despite this, we still managed to have a great long weekend.
Mudgie got another haircut on Friday, and went shopping to get supplies for the weekend (food, warm clothes for hiking, etc.). We headed up to Maine after dinner, and fortunately Mudgie slept for all of the 4-hour drive up there. Unfortunately, he woke up just when we arrived, and wanted to play at 11:30pm. This meant his whole night was thrown off, and in a log cabin with no insulation between the rooms, this meant everyone heard a lot of crying that night.
It didn't seem to impact his mood the next morning, though. Mudgie woke up happy and was excited to play with his friends Carly and Eric, and the dog. In fact, he was so happy to play with everyone that he didn't want to take a nap. After much trying, we decided to forgo the morning nap and just go hiking. Big mistake. Mudgie was not a happy boy and fussed during the entire hike, except when we bribed him with chips and wheat thins (yes, I know, great parenting). Also unfortunate was the weather. We were trying to hike Mt. Sugarloaf, but the entire summit was in the clouds, and then wind and sprinkles and Mudgie's crankiness suggested it wasn't worth it to push for it.
On Sunday we drove Mudgie around in the car so that he would take his morning nap. I really don't know why he wouldn't nap in his pack-and-play, especially when he did it so well in North Carolina. Anyway, it was another cold day, so we chose to do a short hike low in the woods. We did a very nice 4 mile hike, and Mudgie loved playing with the sticks and dirt when we stopped for lunch. I think he was a little sad to go home that night.
On Monday we took the little man apple and pumpkin picking. He loved to help us pick apples...there were so many on the ground to pick up and put into our bag! Fortunately we able to remove his rotten apples when he wasn't looking. I remember taking him apple picking last year, and he was such a little lump. He slept through most of it, except when he screamed when we put him in the pumpkin patch for a photo. This year he got to ride on the big tractor, which he LOVED, though he still wasn't a big fan of the pumpkin patch. It's amazing how much of a boy he is.

Looks like this pumpkin patch/apple picking trip was even more fun than last year! I can picture you guys quickly picking out the rotten apples behind Mudgie's back before he notices it, heehee!
