New Home Sweet Home

It's been a busy week in the Weatherwax household.  Last Sunday we played in our pool for the last time.  Last Tuesday we slept in our house for the last time.  And on Thursday, the kids saw our new house for the first time, and we all spent our first night there.

As sad as it was to say goodbye to our old house, by the time the movers had emptied it out, Dave and I had cleaned it, and all that remained were empty rooms and walls, it didn't feel so much like home anymore, which made it easier to leave.  We spent Wednesday night with Grandpa Steve and Grandma Mary, since all of our belongings were on a truck.  Then on Thursday, we moved into the new house.  Things took a little longer than expected with the closings and paperwork, so when I left to get the kids, the movers were still unloading the truck.

When the kids got to our house that night, they were so excited.  First, they started by running around the yard, checking out the plants and rock, and more importantly, the swing set!  Then it was inside, where Mudgie ran from room to room, exploring everything, and Aaron happily chased after him.  Next it was up the stairs to see their bedrooms, and Mudgie couldn't believe how big his room was.  But the icing on the cake was the attic, where all their toys (many of which had been packed away or in storage for months) were waiting for them.  Sure, much of them were still packed away in boxes, but the big ones were visible, and they wanted to play with them all!  In fact, when they got home the next day (we sent them to daycare on Friday so we could unpack), Mudgie raced into the house and ran straight to the attic.  He LOVES it up there!

Aaron loves the yard and the swing set, even if he couldn't go high on it until Daddy and Grampy fixed it.  He also really likes his new room, and his new big boy bed.  When we were re-assembling his crib, we decided to convert it into a toddler bed.  When Mudgie saw this, he told us we had to put pillows on the floor next to Aaron's bed so he wouldn't get hurt.  What a great big brother!  But the funniest part...wouldn't you know where I found Aaron the next morning?  On the floor, snuggling on the pillows!

We are all still adjusting to this big life change.  The kids have certainly been more cranky and whiney than usual, but to be fair, so have Dave and I.  I hope that over the next couple weeks we find a new normal and new routine in the new house.  If not, at least the kids' bedrooms are big enough now that I won't feel bad locking them in there!
