The kid party was first. At 10am, a crew of 25 children (yes, 25!) and 10 adults arrived at the house. Thank goodness it was a beautiful day. This was the first year where there were kids at the party who were not friends with all the boys. Mudgie's friends came without parents, which was expected, but still rather overwhelming. Fortunately, Mudgie has nice friends, and aside from 1 boy who strayed a little too far during the water gun fight (twice), everyone was very polite, well-behaved, and play extremely well with each other. They started in the bouncy house (which was awesome and had a basketball hoop and a giant slide inside), and spent a good 30 minutes in there. They only emerged when I kicked them out so the little kids could have a turn without getting trampled! Then they were onto the slip-and-slide and water guns, before they eventually migrated to the stomp rockets. Then it was time for pizza and cake, and before we knew it, they got their favors, killed the pinata, and were on their way home. It was quite an action packed 2 hours!
Aaron spent most of the party with his girlfriend Riley, and Tommy spent most of the party on my hip, but was quite pleased once we got to the eating portion of the party (go figure). He devoured the pizza, which is his favorite food, but was a bit skeptical when it came to cupcake time. At first he wasn't even interested. I had to almost force a little frosting in his mouth. However, once he got started, he certainly seemed to get what all the fuss was about, because he ate the entire thing and loved every minute of it.
The boys napped while we picked up and prepared for round 2. At 3:30, the family arrived. We visited for a little while, and decided to open presents before dinner. Mudgie was in heaven! It was what he'd been thinking/talking/dreaming about for weeks! He tore through all his gifts, and while very polite and thankful, just wanted to go and play with all the legos he got when he was done. Aaron is a much different present opener. He takes his time, and wants to play with everything when he opens it. This makes the process take a long time, but at least he's really enjoying everything he opens. And in typical first birthday party fashion, Tommy was completely overwhelmed by it all and didn't want anything to do with presents. He preferred to play with the toy kitchen instead!
While Mudgie had a "wish list" a mile long filled with legos and lego sets, most of Aaron's wants were Disney movie related. He got a lot of different dolls and figures and movies, but his 2 favorite gifts were a toy chainsaw, and a pink sparkly dress with accessories! I know some of the family thought it was a little odd, but that's Aaron. He likes what he likes and he that's that, and I love that about him!
After presents we had some dinner, after which Tommy crashed and went to bed an hour early. He missed the second round of cake, after which everyone was pretty much done. The boys and I put on our jammies and watched one of Aaron's presents, The Little Mermaid, on the couch until we couldn't keep our eyes open anymore. Then we put them to bed and put ourselves to bed shortly thereafter. It was a good day, but an exhausting one!
I can't finish this post without saying that Tommy, while still 2 weeks shy of his birthday, is walking more and more. He will usually consciously choose to walk between points of interest now. He doesn't always make it there without falling, at which point he'll finish with crawling, but it that seems to be becoming his secondary mode of travel. I love watching him and his little "Frankenstein" walk as he goes from place to place. Lucky, he's also really good at falling, so even though he does it often, he hasn't collect too many giant bumps (yet).
Next week we off for 2 weeks of camping. I'm sure we'll have lots of good pictures and stories to share when we get home.
