Every spring there is the Apple Blossom parade and carnival in our town. On Saturday morning we, along with many others in the town, lined up along Main Street for the parade. It's your usual town parade, with the marching band and other local clubs and organizations, but this parade has one thing that I've never seen before...copious amounts of candy. Every group that passes by throws out handfuls of candy to the onlookers, and as you can imagine, Mudgie and Aaron were all over it! The two of them happily ate their way through the parade (and probably into several cavities).
Mudgie enjoyed exploring new varieties of candy. Some were gooey and got stuck in his teeth. Some were sour. But the biggest reaction was from the atomic fire ball. We were sitting on the side of the road, happily enjoying the parade, when all of a sudden Mudgie started screaming. "It's spicy in my mouth, and it won't stop!" We tried giving him juice, but his mouth was still on fire. We tried giving him a Starburst, but his mouth was still on fire. Finally, a hershey kiss was able to counteract the power of the fire ball. Mudgie was careful not to put another one of those in his mouth, and we got to view the most entertaining show of the parade!
On Saturday night Grammy and Grampy came over to watch the boys while Dave and I went to a friend's wedding. The kids were practically kicking us out the door, because they knew with us gone they could sucker Grammy and Grampy into giving them more candy! We had a fun night out, and the kids got a sugar high...another win for everyone!
On Sunday, we went to the carnival. Mudgie was so excited to go on the rides, and he certainly was more adventurous in his ride selection than last year. Poor Aaron only got to go on a couple, even though he wanted to go on them all. Mudgie's favorite ride was the giant slide, and Aaron LOVED the merry-go-round! After the rides we got some treats. Grammy got the boys their first cotton candy. Mudgie loved it (go figure), but Aaron didn't know what to make of it. Even after trying some, he was surprisingly uninterested. However, neither one of them turned down an ice cream cone. In our post-junk food haze, we let the boys play a duck game where they won the most annoying toy trumpets in the world! Lucky us!
Aaron has been talking up a storm the past couple of weeks. It seems like his vocabulary has just exploded, and almost overnight, he is talking in broken sentences. He knows what he wants, and if you can't figure out what he's trying to tell you, beware! There are some very strong opinions in that little bundle. I wonder where he gets that from???
