I knew he'd get it eventually, and for the very first time this week, Tommy crawled. Forward. On purpose! He even did it multiple times. But here's the thing...he really doesn't like it! I thought that once he figured it out, he'd be thrilled that he could now move himself from point A to point B without a grown-up. As it turns out, while he can do, he really doesn't want to.
The first time Tommy crawled, he was on the rug in the sitting room off the kitchen, and wanted to use my water bottle (that I'd left on the floor next to the chair) as a teething toy. Since it's his favorite teether ever, it was enough to entice him to willing crawl! He's crawled to me or Dave since then, but he usually cries the whole time he's doing it. He'll also get frustrated and plunk down on the floor for a break, sucking his thumb with his left hand and rubbing his ear with his right. Then once he gets his second (or sometimes third) wind, he'll get back up and continue on to his destination.
Tommy's walking has also made great progress this weekend. He can now stand for several seconds completely unassisted. He's begun walking while only holding on with 1 hand, and he has scooted along the furniture as well. And if that wasn't enough, I'm pretty sure he's also calling Tiggy by name (it sounds more like "iggy"), and I'm trying really hard not to be offended that he's still not saying "mama!" Lastly, he has started signing "more," and at the appropriate times too. My baby is growing up too quickly!
Mudgie also had a big week. He had his first t-ball practice, and he rocked it! He has a few friends on his team, which made him much more comfortable, and he did a great job throwing, fielding, and running the bases. And if that wasn't enough, he finally got the hang of pumping on the swings!!! If you've ever been to the playground (or our backyard) with the boys, you know how much they love the swing. Unfortunately, they see it as a place to chill and relax, and with someone always there to push them, there is no incentive to learn how to pump. This year, we decided Mudgie really needed to learn this skill, and we were not going to push him anymore. Mudgie was not a fan of this policy! However, after several weeks of instruction, it finally seemed to click, and Mudgie was able to keep himself in motion for a good 20 minutes this weekend. We were all very impressed, Mudgie more than anyone else!
This week was Easter, and while it is certainly not a big holiday in our house, the Weatherwax family never passes up an opportunity to give presents. Not only did the Easter bunny come and leave eggs full of candy, he also left movies (Frozen and Planes), and toys (Legos and Magformers). Then in addition to the Easter bunny, lots of family member made baskets and got goodies for the kids. They were in heaven, and we now have enough chocolate in the house to last until Christmas!
All the boys seemed to get another cold this week, too. I thought it started last weekend with Mudgie, who was coughing and wheezing a bit. Then on Tuesday we got a call that Aaron had a fever of 103 at daycare, and we needed to come get him. He was better by Thursday, but then Tommy started coughing, and he's currently running a fever, coughing up a storm, and is just all snotty and snurgly. And then today, Mudgie started with nose dripping, increased coughing, and tonight he was running a little fever too. What is going on with these kids? I'm home with the boys tomorrow for Patriots Day, and I think we'll just have to hunker down and watch all these movies they got and hope that a day of rest makes everyone recover quickly.
