Mudgie's Mobile!

Well, he's still not crawling, but Mudgie has found a way to get around the house unassisted...it's called the scoot. As I described last week, this involves getting onto his hands and knee (just one) and using his hands and 1 foot to pull and push himself forward. It looks like it's a heck of a lot of work, but Mudgie seems quite content with this mode of transportation. Let the childproofing begin!

On a similar note, Mudgie took his first steps on Saturday! We were playing in the living room, and he felt pretty stable on his feet, so I let go of his hands and he walked right to me. He can't really go more than a few steps without falling over, but it's huge progress. The best part is how happy and proud of himself he is when he does it. The look on his face is priceless!

Unfortunately, all these new milestones are wreaking havoc on his sleep. He goes down pretty well around 8pm, but for the past few nights he's been waking up around 11 (sometime a few times before then too) and while I can get him back to sleep in the crib, he then wakes up every 5-10 minutes. After a few rounds of this he then ends up in our bed. I'm hoping that once he's walking and he cuts his top 2 teeth his sleeping will get much better...but that may just be wishful thinking!

We also installed Mudgie's "big boy" carseat in my car this week. He seems to like it, and while it's a little sad that he's almost outgrown his bucket, that thing was getting REALLY heavy! Even better than his new car seat, though, was playing with Mudgie in the box it came in. See the picture above.

Finally, I have to mention Mudgie's (and Daddy's) first Father's Day. Mudgie got his dad some hockey stuff and a mug with the picture of the two of them on it. Daddy seemed to really like it! Then Daddy spent the rest of the day working on the deck with his dad, and Mudgie spent the day catching up on sleep and perfecting his new walking skills.

Looks like Mudgie still likes the magnets on the fridge!
