Check-up Time

So the boys went for their well-child check-ups this week, and they are growing like weeds! Mudgie is now 32.4 lbs and 39" tall, and Aaron is 21 lbs and 32" tall. Mudgie shot up 3" in 6 months, putting him around the 75th percentile for height, and 50th for weight. Aaron grew 2.5" in 3 months, and is in the 95th percentile for height, and 25th for weight, though if you use the WHO growth charts that are based on breastfed babies, he is in the 50th percentile for weight. In any event, both boys are healthy, and both needed to get shots to keep them that way.

It's always hard to watch the boys get shots, but now that Mudgie is getting older, it really hard to watch him because he understands it all so much more. He was so good during the exam, and cooperated with everything the doctor and nurse asked of him. As a funny aside, all the nurses know him as the kid who screams when you bring him in the exam room, and they all came in to tell him what a good boy he was being! Mudgie even seemed to understand when we told him he needed a shot, and he sat so well as they prepped his arm, and even when they stuck him with the needle, but he started to scream when the nurse pushed the vaccine in. The look of horror on his face was so sad. I've never been to get upset over the kids' shots, but this one almost made me cry. Fortunately, the fallout from the shots was short-lived for both kiddos, and everyone was soon happy and smiling again.

And since the rest of the week was pretty uneventful, I'll leave you with some Mudgie "funnies."

Dave has the boys at Dunkin' Donuts on Sunday morning, leaving the house quiet for Mommy to sleep (thank you, Daddy).

Mudgie: "We need money to pay for donuts?"

Dave: "Yeah. Are you going to buy us breakfast?"

Mudgie: "No! I can't even drive yet!"

We are in the car driving to daycare, where Karen tries to keep Mudgie from sucking on his fingers.

Mudgie: "Can I put my fingers in my mouth?"

Me: "Well, why do you want to put your fingers in your mouth?"

Mudgie: "Because my mouth is hungry for my fingers."

There is no dialog to go with the last "funny," but after bathtime tonight, Aaron was being really cute, climbing up into the little chair in Mudgie's room and snuggling with a stuffed animal. As we got the video camera out to capture it on film, Mudgie starts running around naked, riding his bee pillow and pretending it was a train. Mudgie was very animated and had all kinds of sound effects, all while 100% nude, and Aaron was just playing in the chair, looking ridiculously cute doing his own thing. And it's all on tape for Mudgie's future wife to see!
