October Snow Storm...Happy Halloween!

I really wanted to write a post last week, but mother nature had a little something to say about that. Due to the warm fall, the trees have been late to drop their leaves, which was not a good combination with the early snowstorm we had. Most of our town was without power for at least a couple days (including us), although Mudgie was excited to play in the snow.

The power went out around 9:30 Saturday night, and the sound of branches and trees breaking all around us was a little scary. We even moved Mudgie out of his bedroom because we were worried about a tree falling on his bed! Fortunately, nothing that fell on our house was big enough to damage it, but the power lines were not so lucky. All day Sunday we were hopeful that the power would return, but as the sun started to go down, and we were still without power, we made the decision to bail and find someplace warm to spend the night. We were very lucky to get the last room at the Westford Regency, and so we packed ourselves us and headed out. Of course Mudgie thought it was a great adventure. We spent Monday at the house (bundled up) and at the hotel (where it was warm and they had a pool) because Karen had no power either, so daycare was closed. Luckily, our power returned at about 6pm on Monday night. We went back to the hotel where we dressed the kids up and did a little trick-or-treating Easter egg hunt style, and gave the kids a bath there, as the house was still pretty cold. Then we bundled them up and went back to our own house. It was good to be home.

Due to the storm and the lack of power, trick-or-treating for the town was rescheduled for the following Sunday. Our neighbors invited us over for dinner before we all went out together. I was so impressed with how well the kids played together before dinner. Even Aaron required very little supervision/intervention. They all shared and entertained each other for about an hour, and it was so nice to have a grown-up conversation! I hope this is a trend that continues. Trick-or-treating was a lot of fun, and of course Mudgie was totally into it. Aaron was a little unsure about it at first (especially since he still has some stranger anxiety), but by the end he had the routine figured out, and was happily taking the candy and waving goodbye.
