Mudgie Says Goodbye to Grammy

After a 15 month long battle with cancer, Grammy Gail passed away on Saturday, peacefully, at her home. We were so lucky to get to spend time with her on Friday. She was so happy to see Mudgie and wanted to give him kisses. We were both glad to have such a nice visit and the opportunity to say goodbye.

Of course, in full Mudgie style, that couldn't be the only thing going on in our world. Mudgie got his 15-month vaccinations on Wednesday. This meant 4 shots, 2 in each leg. He wasn't happy about it, but he took the shots like a champ, and was happy to leave with an Elmo sticker! On Thursday night we saw a big red welt on his right leg, and it was still there Friday morning. I called the doctor about it that morning before we left for Western Mass, but no one called back until 1:30 in the afternoon, when we were already in Western Mass and had no intention of going home. The doctor said Mudgie really should be seen, and so we then had to pack up the little guy and find a clinic to take him to. Fortuntely, that proved to be easier than I anticipated, and we walked away with a persciption for some antibiotics. Unfortunately, our experince in CVS was not as nice, and we waited for an hour to get the persciption filled, and Mudgie was not happy about that! However, we finally made it back to Dave's parents, where we are staying, and Mudgie perked right up after he had some dinner.

We'll be staying out in Western Mass through Thanksgiving. Mudgie has been such a good boy with all we've been asking of his this week. He's been dragged around all over the state, and we've asked him to behave in all kinds of environments. The only thing he's been very demanding of is his milk, which he asks for by name, and will have a fit if we don't have any to give him!

We will all miss Grammy very much. We already do. I am just so thankful that we've been able to see her every week since Mudgie was born. He really enjoyed going out to see her every Friday, as did I. She got to have some really nice moments with Mudgie, and she got to see him grow from a tiny baby into a little man. While it breaks my heart to know she won't get to see him grow into the wonderful man I know he will become, I can only be thankful for the time we did have. And I think that's all anyone can ask for. Be thankful for what you have, every day, and try not to take it for granted.
