It was a very laid back weekend filled with a surprising amount of fun! On Friday I took Mudgie and Aaron on our first big outing without Daddy. We went to Drumlin Farm. Mudgie has been there with daycare several times, and he knew just what he wanted to do there. First, there was the hay ride. He climbed right on up and "held on tight" (his words, not mine). Next we went to see the pigs, or "giant (pronounced ginant) piggies" as Mudgie called them. Then it was off to the hen house where Mudgie played with the wooden eggs and pressed the buttons to hear chicken sounds from around the world. After that, we had a little snack and headed home. The whole trip went surprising well, and once again, Aaron slept through all of it!
Later that afternoon, we added to the day's fun by taking a trip to Kimball's with our neighbors. Mudgie loved his " giant ice cream cone" (chocolate chip, of course), and for this trip, Aaron finally decided to participate! He was totally content to sit with me and observe all the activity. Mudgie and his friends Lauren and Michael ate ice cream and played on the "beach", aka the volleyball court. Mudgie and Lauren even found "shells" (aka rocks) for me! You have to admire the imagination there.
On Saturday morning, I convinced the boys to join me for town yard sale day. Not only did we get to look at other people's junk, but it was also town "emergency preparedness day," and Mudgie got to go in a fire truck and a big plow. He even got a free bicycle helmet. While I'm not sure I agree that giving away helmets was the best use of our tax dollars, Mudgie loves his new helmet!
After nap we all went apple picking! Mudgie has been very into apples lately, and loves eating them whole, like a "big boy," so apple picking was very exciting. We all got to go for a tractor ride to the apple orchard, and Mudgie made sure to sample some of our pickings. When we got home, we threw his apple remnants into the woods for the deer. Mudgie liked the idea of feeding the deer so much that he started throwing all our apples into the woods. It was too cute to get upset about!
Sunday was very relaxing. We went for a little hike to the "big pond," where Mudgie could throw rocks into the water. He loved the idea that next weekend we will go for a big hike up a mountain! He loved hearing about Storyland even more! I think next weekend will be lots of fun. Stay tuned to hear how it turns out.
